They walked down the steps to the Town Hall and saw Henry and Bill surrounded by dozens of citizens. They also saw eight men lying on the ground on their stomachs with their hands tied behind them. The citizens patted them on the back and treated them like heroes. There was a cheer when Carlos led the survivors out of the building. Several of the women had been abused, and a few had been killed.

Carlos looked over the crowd. “Where is the mayor or town leader?”

Everyone looked down at their feet. Mary turned toward Carlos. “I’m the mayor, and every town councilman was killed early this morning. The thugs also killed our Sheriff and all but two of our Deputies.”

A lady spoke up. “They also killed Judge Roy Bern and the only lawyers in town. We have no law and order.”

Carlos thought for a second and pointed at the captured convicts. “Were these men involved in the killings and rape of those women?”

Several of the town’s citizens came forward, pointed at the men, and identified each one as a man who raped or killed someone. One woman kicked one of the convicts in the side. Several of the women who had been raped or who had watched the convicts kill their husbands began kicking them.

Carlos stopped the women and asked José to take the men on a walk away from the town. He whispered to José that the men shouldn’t come back from their walk. Henry, Bill, and the others lifted the men to their feet and marched them about a half mile northeast of town, and then Bill and José shot each one in the head.

The other men were shocked except for Henry who stuck his pistol between the last man’s eyes and then said, “That was my cousin Alice that you had your way with. I should have cut his dick off,” and then shot him.
